Follow Friday & TGIF

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read  This weeks featured blog is Lauren Gets Literal and the weekly question is:

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

My biggest pet peeves would be too many details. Sure, I'd like to know that Suzy is sitting under a tree. I might even like to know that it is fall and the leaves are gently falling from the oak or whatever type tree. I don't need to know the species of the tree, the bugs that inhabit it or tons of flowery detail about the direction of the wind bending the branches making blah blah blah. Some writer get so caught up in ornate details that is stalls the story. I want to know details but not too many minute little detail because then I'm thinking about the tree not the main character.

tgif is a weekly meme hosted by GReads!  This week's question is:

Writing Reviews 101: What's your process for writing book reviews?
Any tips or suggestions you would recommend to other bloggers?

I have absolutely no process. I read the book and as I'm reading sometimes I make notes but most of the time I don't. When I'm finished I try to write the review as soon as possible but sometimes I don't quite get to it. Then I have to go back and look over the book again to remember what I thought about it while I was reading. My suggestions to other bloggers: don't be like me. Everytime I start a book I say I'm going to look more at the writing structure and grammar and really critique the writing style not just the subject and content but then I start writing from the heart and say plainly what I felt about the book. I don't think my reviews would be considered formal book reviews. I really should get better at it and I will : D

OAN: I'm glad Thanksgiving and NaNoWriMo are over. Things will pick up around here next week. I'm so looking forward to my two week vacay coming at the end of December. I plan to read and read and read. Can't wait!

Lol - I agree with you 100% about too much detail in a book being a major turn off!
